Digital Citizenship week is October 19th– 23rd.  We are encouraging children to be safe, respectful, and responsible online. In the Library we will be talking about being a Digital Superhero! Please watch for the Family Tip sheet coming home soon to talk about the digital world in your home.

Read, Deed and Run students are helping the library collect food for hungry children in our area.  Katy Budget Books is helping us participate in the Crenshaw Food Drive sponsored by author Katherine Applegate.  Look for information about contributing from the RDR kids and check out #CrenshawFoodDrive on Twitter.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  To honor the fight against this disease, the Library is hoping to “Pink the School” with a pink shirt campaign.  Any student who wears a pink shirt on their library day during the month of October may check out an extra library book that day.  If they don’t want to wear a pink shirt, they can contribute $1.00 instead to receive an extra book check out that week. (One extra book check out per student per week.  All funds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation on November 1, 2015.)

February

February will be just as busy as January!

We are getting ready for the author/poet Brod Bagert for our 3rd and 5th graders on February 3rd.

Students in 3rd-5th who read 12 or more Bluebonnet Books will be coming to the Bluebonnet Bash on Feb. 10th with Magician Chad Chesmark, who is so funny!

Digital Citizenship Day district-wide is Feb. 25th and we encourage all students to be kind to one another online.

And….of course….BOOK FAIR is almost here!!!!

Fans of Gordon Korman (Swindle) and Polly Holyoke (Neptune Project) will want to mark their calendars to go see these to great authors at Blue Willow Bookshop!!!!  Korman will be there on 2/12 and Holyoke on 2/21.  AWESOME!!!!

January

I can’t believe January is almost gone!!!

Kindergarten students are now using shelf markers to find their favorite authors!  First Graders completed their journey through the nonfiction section and can now get a book from any section in that area!  Second Graders met author Dan Gutman through a virtual author visit and learned about all the KISD Databases so they can have 24/7 access at home to safe, factual information while having fun learning!  Third grade got some great Biography books, learned about book reviews, and found out that they have a poet coming to see them the first week in February….Brod Bagert!!!!  Fourth Graders had fun showing me how smart they are during a scavenger hunt for books in the Library!  And Fifth Graders read and created poems in preparation for their visit with Brod Bagert!

All students who qualified voted for their favorite 2×2 or Bluebonnet book and we tallied those votes….I cannot wait to see who wins!
